Newport Boot Room

Newport Live is thrilled to announce the launch of the Newport Boot Room project, aimed at revolutionising access to sport and physical activity for all, within the local community. This initiative encourages people to donate their pre-loved boots and trainers through specially designated donation bins located in the reception areas of all Newport Live venues.

The objective of the Newport Boot Room project is to foster a culture of giving and support within the Newport community. Donated footwear will undergo a cleaning process, after which they will be made available for purchase by members of the public. A minimum donation of £5 is required. The funds generated from these sales will be channelled towards Newport Live's Community Sport and Wellbeing team, enabling them to provide support to families and children who face challenges in accessing sport and physical activity opportunities.

Chloe, Community Sport and Physical Officer at Newport Live said "I am incredibly proud of the positive impact The Newport Boot Room project is going to have on the local community. Through the simple act of donating and purchasing used football boots and trainers, we're not only promoting recycling and reducing waste, but we're also breaking down financial barriers to youth sports participation. Every small donation for these boots goes a long way in making sports accessible to all. Together, we're not only saving the environment but also ensuring that every aspiring young athlete has the chance to step onto the field with confidence, passion, and the right gear."

This initiative was born out of the desire to address the numerous barriers that hinder individuals from participating in sport and physical activity. By offering affordable footwear options, the Newport Boot Room aims to remove one of these significant barriers. The project also recognises that financial challenges extend beyond footwear, and thus, the funds raised will support families in various ways, including covering membership costs, providing sports kit, and facilitating transportation.

Andrea, Director of Business Development at Newport Live, expressed her excitement for the project and said “Newport Boot Room is a groundbreaking initiative aimed at transforming access to sports and physical activity within our local community. By encouraging the donation of pre-loved boots and trainers through designated bins across our venues, we are fostering a culture of giving and support. By supporting the Newport Boot Room project, our members and customers are actively contributing to the betterment of our local community, as all profits are reinvested into services and community projects across Newport."

Donation bins have been placed in the reception areas of all Newport Live venues, which includes the Active Living Centre in Bettws, Station, the Riverfront Theatre and Arts Centre, the Regional Pool & Tennis Centre, the Geraint Thomas Velodrome and Newport Stadium making it convenient for community members to make their donations.
