Newport Live is helping to organise an urgent fundraising appeal this Christmas for 200 of the most vulnerable children and young people in Newport, linked to Newport City Council’s Children’s Services. Funds raised, with the help of local volunteers, people, businesses, and organisations will enable the purchase of essential items and gifts this Christmas.

Councillor Jason Hughes, Newport City Council’s cabinet member for Social Services said, “These are extremely challenging times for children, young people and their families due to the increasing cost of fuel, heating and additional pressures of the cost of living. We have identified 200 vulnerable children and young people who face homelessness and need financial assistance, support and a Christmas Cwtch, from those who are able to help.”

All funds raised from Newport’s Christmas Cwtch Appeal will be used to purchase the following types of essential items and Christmas gifts that will offer some comfort during this festive season

- Throws/warm blankets, gloves, hats, socks, hoodies/fleece tops
- Age-appropriate toys/games
- Books and gift vouchers
- Hot water bottles
- Toiletries
- Christmas treats including selection boxes/biscuits

Volunteers will create hampers, packs, wrap and deliver Christmas gifts for those children, young people and families identified by Children’s Services.

Andrea Ovey, Director of Business Development at Newport Live said, “This is a great cause for our teams and volunteers to be involved with, helping organise an urgent appeal for vulnerable children and young people living within our communities. We ask that if you can, please donate. All funds will go to help make a real difference to those who need it most this Christmas.”
