Newport Live’s Community Sport & Wellbeing team launch the Young Ambassador Series online on June 1st to encourage children and their families to be happy and healthy at home!

The Young Ambassadors Series consists of 10 videos featuring games ideas, sport related challenges and pre-recorded Q&A sessions. Series one will be hosted by Young Ambassadors Rhiannon and Eleri, both of whom have been volunteering with Newport Live for several years. The videos will be released on a weekly basis on Newport Live Sport Development social media channels starting June 1st. The videos are suitable for parents looking to develop their children’s physical literacy skills at home or want to try a new sporting activity as a family. Series two will follow later in the year hosted by Young Ambassadors Alfie and Ethan.

The Young Ambassador programme in Wales is funded by the National Lottery and is run in partnership between Sport Wales, Youth Sport Trust, and the sports development teams in each Local Authority. Currently, there are more than 4000 Young Ambassadors in schools, colleges, and universities across Wales. Keen to make a difference in local communities and at a national level, they create and deliver opportunities for their peers and even adults to be physically active through sport and physical activity. In turn, the programme is providing young people with confidence and skills to be the sporting leaders of the future.

Lauren Bourne, Community Sports Development Officer for Newport Live said “The past year has been difficult as the effects of coronavirus saw lockdowns and social distancing measures take its toll on people’s levels of physical activity. This inspired our Young Ambassadors to design, plan and produce a series of online videos featuring game ideas and sport challenges called the Young Ambassador Series to help children and families be happier and healthier at home. The project will launch on June 1st on Newport Live’s social media channels and will run for 10 weeks culminating in a series of Q&As with our Young Ambassadors.”

Newport Live’s Community Sport and Wellbeing Team delivers sports development opportunities for children, families, schools, communities, sports clubs, and local groups across Newport. They strive to make a difference in the local communities and to get more people hooked on sport for life, whilst contributing to improving the populations health and mental wellbeing.

As Newport Live is a charitable organisation, all of its customers and members are helping to support the delivery of community projects and activities across Newport.
