Summer holidays are a time to relax and recharge – but that doesn’t mean your fitness has to take a back seat. At Newport Live, we believe movement should support your lifestyle, not compete with it. Whether you're jetting off abroad, planning a staycation, or juggling kids/grandkids at home, here are some easy ways to stay active and come back feeling refreshed – not rusty.
Here are some top tips for moving better this Summer - enjoy!
1. Move with Purpose, Not Pressure
Skip the guilt and focus on daily movement, not perfect workouts. Even a 20-minute walk, swim, or stretch session counts. Staying active will boost your energy, reduce stiffness, and keep your mood lifted. Why not consider our Momentwm walking network which meets every Wednesday at the Riverfront at 12.30, for a social stroll.
2. Pack Light, Train Smart
A mini resistance band or skipping rope takes up almost no space – but opens up huge workout options. Ask our Gym Instructors for a quick holiday band workout before you travel!
3. Try This: Newport Live's Speedy Circuit
Complete 3–4 rounds of:
• 30 seconds bodyweight squats
• 30 seconds press-ups (knees or toes)
• 30 seconds mountain climbers
• 30 seconds rest
No equipment. No excuses. Just a short, sharp way to keep active wherever you are-in the gym, at home, in a hotel room or on the beach!
4. Aqua
Not leaving town? Join our Aqua classes for a cool and effective low-impact workout. Or consider our lane, leisure or family swims.
5. Make it about the family
If you're finding you have less time for training or exercise than normal, because you have children or grandchildren at home more during the holidays why not consider one of our holiday activities that you can do as a family e.g. our Bikeability road safety & cycling sessions for the family, a family swim or one of the other many holiday activities we are offering this summer.
6. Plan Your Post-Holiday Reset
Ease back into routine with a free Gym Induction or 1-2-1 session. We’ll assess where you’re at and help build a gentle restart plan that gets you motivated –not overwhelmed.
7. Just Remember - Movement is Medicine
So even a walk with friends, a bit of dancing at a festival or some gentle yoga stretches in the garden all counts towards your health and well-being!
