Each March, The Riverfront Theatre and Arts Centre celebrates International Women’s Day with a fantastic programme of free performances and taster sessions, all with a female focus.
On Saturday 7 March from 10am–4pm, The Riverfront will host its annual International Women’s Day event, bringing together celebrated musicians, community groups and inspiring local women for a vibrant day of creativity and conversation. Throughout the day there will be live performances, panel discussions, creative showcases and plenty of opportunities to connect with others in a welcoming and supportive environment.
There will be a special launch of the 2026 Newport Women’s Forum Bursary Awards, marking 30 years of supporting women in Newport to achieve their goals. Visitors can learn more about the bursary, meet the team and find out how to apply.
The programme also features discussions with Herstory Theatre Group on their new production Pianoforte: The Story of Mary Frost, a conversation with Noni Lewis about her play Grip of Life, a Q&A with female writers on achieving your goals, and a creative writing performance from women involved in The Wallich’s ‘Gwent Women Will Unite’ project.

There are plenty of opportunities for children and adults to craft and create, including arts and crafts activities, a Street Fairy workshop with artist Stephanie Roberts, Memory Boxes with Age Alive, and a range of creative and expressive workshops. Visitors can also take part in Women’s Only Yoga (14+), Bollywood Dance and an introduction to Qi Gong, alongside live music sessions and community choir performances.
A workshop delivered by Cyfannol Women’s Aid will explore practical ways to support and empower women in our community, highlighting how small actions can make a meaningful difference.
Guests are welcome to stay all day and enjoy a variety of events or come and go at their own leisure. All daytime events, running from 10am–4pm, are free and no booking is required.
The celebrations continue into the evening with a free screening of Prime Minister (12A) at 5pm (booking recommended), followed by a special International Women’s Day Comedy Gala at 7:30pm, presented by the team behind the Machynlleth Comedy Festival.
Sally-Anne Evans, Senior Creative Development Co-Ordinator at The Riverfront Theatre and Arts Centre, said: “International Women’s Day is always a highlight of our year. It’s a chance to celebrate the achievements, creativity and resilience of women in our community, while creating space for important conversations and new connections. We look forward to welcoming everyone for what promises to be another inspiring and uplifting day.”
