In celebration of the global awareness day, International Women’s Day, The Riverfront Theatre and Arts Centre will be hosting an event on Saturday 11 March from 10am – 4pm. Following on from their extremely successful event last year, The Riverfront will be welcoming everyone of all ages to join them for a day full of music, workshops, inspirational guest speakers and more!

International Women’s Day takes place on 8 March 2023 and this year the theme is #EmbraceEquity. Organisers of International Women’s Day state, “Equality is the goal, and equity is the means to get there. Through the process of equity, we can reach equality.”

The Riverfront’s Community Arts Development Officer and organiser of the event, Sally-Anne Evans said, ‘We are really looking forward to hosting this celebratory event again this year. It’s an opportunity for people of Newport to come together to recognise the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women locally and all over the world. We are so lucky to be joined by amazing individuals and community groups for a diverse, educational and fun day of music, dance, food and enjoyment. If you can join us, please do because it really is a great day.’

There will be a variety of different activities on the day to participate in, making it a fun-packed day. Community groups, Coffee ’n’ Laughs and Age Alive will be launching the event as they join forces and sing; the Riverfront will be joined by invited guests, Gwent Police and many other key figures within the community who will hold talks; and Newport’s Women’s Forum will be launching, The Newport Women’s Forum Bursary Award for 2023.

Andrea Ovey, Director of Business Development at Newport Live, said ‘International Womens Day is an important opportunity to raise awareness and celebrate the impact and achievements of women across the city, across Wales and globally. Newport Live are very proud to bring this important event to the Riverfront once again in 2023, the team are committed to and will continue to work together to embrace equity creating an inclusive world for all, Id encourage people across the city to join us at the Riverfront on March 11.’
