Enjoy a workout in four venues across the city of Newport. Our Newport Live gyms are located at the Active Living Centre, Newport Centre and Newport International Sports Village.

A Newport Live Membership gives you access to our gyms, pools, group exercise classes and racket sports, and you can use your membership at all of our venues.

The Newport Centre fitness suite is fully air-conditioned with a variety of Technogym cardiovascular and resistance stations and free weights. Its city centre location is perfect if you live or work in the city, or are heading off to socialise or go shopping after your workout. Swimming and group exercise classes are also available at the Centre. 

Newport International Sports Village incorporates the Regional Pool and Tennis Centre and Wales National Velodrome and has three fitness suites - all equipped with the latest Technogym equipment. There are over 100 fitness stations and a dedicated free weights room with 23 stations plus free weights. The gym in the Velodrome also includes a revolutionary ‘Freedom Climber’ climbing wall, the Velodrome is also home to the ICG Studio and 40 award-winning Tomahawk IC7 bikes. As well as instructor-led classes, you can also book into virtual classes thanks to MyRide® technology. 

The Active Living Centre gym is small but mighty; with the latest equipment (20 Technogym cardiovascular stations and 6 Technogym resistance stations), it has everything you need for the perfect workout. The ALC is also home to a pool, sports hall and a great variety of group exercise classes, so there's something for everyone.


STEP 1: ORIENTATION -  Find out a little more about how we can help you with your aims and goals,  how the gym equipment works, the geography of the building, swipes and lockers.  Maybe you are a returning member and want to find out about the latest changes,  offers,  updates and classes. Orientations are inclusive to those on membership or pay as you go. 

Please note Orientation for Juniors is compulsory. (Those under the age of 17 years old).

STEP 2: HEALTH CHECK (Optional):   Taking up a health check offers you a starting point of measurement to monitor your progress. From weight,  height,  BMI,  Blood pressure, body fat % or inches. You will be sat with a qualified instructor to take these measurements who can then use these to help cater a programme personal to you.  It is recommended you book in to review these every 4 weeks. 

STEP 3: PROGRAMME:   A personal programme gives you the tools to independently use the equipment safely and with purpose towards your aims and goals.  Firstly you will discuss what you want to achieve with an instructor, who in turn will go with you around the gym and write you a personal plan.  The personal plan will detail the type of exercises appropriate to you,  how much weight to put on, number of reps,  sets, technique, progressions. Perhaps you may want to learn new ways of training from split routines, intervals or pyramid training. You are then able to take the programme cards around the gym with you each time you exercise for guidance. Also - Please ask an instructor if you do have questions.  It is advised programmes are re-booked every 4-6 weeks to avoid plateu.    

Programmes are inclusive to those on membership or pay as you go. 

STEP 4: 1 to 1s: This is a 30 minute 121 session with a qualified fitness instructor.  Its allot more personal than a programme. If you are in need of a nudge of motivation, a little push out of the comfort zone or just perhaps some extra spotting and assistance this can help you keep on track.  1 to 1 session are limited to one session per week and are exclusive to members only. 

SMALL GROUP TRAINING:  These are 30 minute express sessions for up to 4 people in the gym.  They are great to help build confidence for the larger group exercise class and meet our instructors.  Small group training sessions include; Gym Rig,  ViPR, Functional Fit, Gym HIIT and Core. Small Group Training is exclusive to members only.

STAFF ASSISTANCE - There will always be a Newport Live staff member on hand with help and advice. If you are looking to set goals or need a little encouragement to achieve your goals, the gym team will be more than happy to write you a personalised fitness plan or give you advice with your training. Our fitness team is there to help you whether you're new to us or a long-term member.
