Newport Live held their flagship ‘Sport in the Park’ family events this Summer at Rogerstone Welfare Ground and Beechwood Park.
The events are held in the community at established green space venues, located either side of Newport to give as much opportunity to as many families as possible, and over 2,000 children, young people, parents and carers attended this Summer!
“We understand that parents are always looking for something to do in the Summer, and Sport in the Park, with so many things to do, and being low cost for families, is just a really good event for the calendar, as families will come and stay for the whole day as everything is free once registered!” explained Karl Reed, Head of Community Sport & Wellbeing at Newport Live.
Many families come early to get a base in the shade or sunshine and stay for the day with a picnic or use our catering providers, making the events a firm fixture in the diaries of many parents over the Summer! Lots of free fun activities are provided for children and families to take part in including a giant bouncy obstacle course and bouncy castle, football, tennis, darts inflatable target shootouts and a massive inflatable football pitch; as well as a DJ and music, face painting, arts and crafts, garden games, early years activities, and sports taster sessions including tennis, football, volleyball, rugby, basketball, netball, boxing, and cycling!
All delivered by our young volunteers, community coaches, and development officers who do an amazing job, in the heat, from early morning set ups to late finishes, all with a smile on their faces, engaging residents, families, children and young people!
A variety of health, wellbeing and community stalls are also on offer, including Newport Live's own Momentwm project and a number of valued partners supported Sport in the Park this year, including Basketball Wales, Welsh Boxing, Aneurin Bevan University Health Board (ABUHB), Diabetes UK, St John Ambulance, A1 Bounce, Beechwood Café, and The Glade Café, helping to create a vibrant welcoming atmosphere at the family events.
