From 9.30am on Monday 20th July, Newport Live have launched a range of outdoor fitness classes. Following feedback from customers and staff a reduced timetable has been introduced including Zumba, kettlebells, yoga and pilates.

Classes must be booked in advance via the Newport Live website or the Newport Live app and cost £4.50 per person. For the time being, customer memberships will remain frozen due to the limited offer available. Sessions will take place on the tennis courts at the Regional Pool and Tennis Centre on Newport International Sports Village and customers will be required to follow additional Covid-19 guidance to ensure the safety of instructors and customers.

The announcement comes following the most recent update from the Welsh Government that outdoor fitness classes for up to 30 people are now permitted to go ahead outdoors. It also follows the opening of Newport Live’s outdoor tennis courts for play last week.

Steve Ward, Chief Executive at Newport Live said “As exercise is so vital to our mental and physical wellbeing, especially during these unprecedented time, we are so pleased that we are able to bring back some of our more popular classes outdoors and welcome back some of our customers and instructors. We have taken precautions and introduced new guidelines to ensure that our outdoor areas and equipment provide a safe environment for our customers to exercise and support their health and wellbeing.”

The outdoor classes have been introduced following the closure of Newport Live buildings over 100 days ago. Whilst their facilities have been used to provide training for Welsh elite athletes and host Wales' first post COVID-19 rehabilitation programme, they have been closed to the public since March.

For customers who do not wish to take part in outdoor classes, Newport Live have also been sharing activities and exercises on their website to support their customers with getting active whilst they are at home. They are also offering customers a 30-day free trial of online fitness classes provided by Les Mills.
