12 months freelance opportunity: Salary circa £12,000 per annum (£150 per day for up to 80 days, approx. 1.5 days a week, on a flexible basis)

Action for Children Fostering Wales in partnership with the Riverfront Theatre and Arts centre have been successful in securing funding from Arts Council Wales through its Arts, and Health and Wellbeing National Lottery fund for an innovative arts project for young people who have experienced early years trauma.

This project is aimed to introduce young people that have experienced childhood adversity to creative enriching arts and craft experiences. These experiences are essential for healthy development, providing opportunities to explore creative autonomy and self-regulation.

The Creative Co-ordinator role is a 12-month freelance opportunity, and is a key post within the project, responsible for developing and co-ordinating the arts programme alongside the fostering service. The fostering service will provide therapeutic training, support and supervision in working with this vulnerable group.

The activity will take place in Action for Children’s ‘Arts Space’ in Beechwood Park and at the Riverfront Theatre and Arts Centre, Newport.

Job Description:

· To organise, schedule, and co-ordinate a programme of arts activities for children, young people and fostering families.

· To deliver arts / crafts sessions within your own creative skills set.

· To collate referrals into project and liaise with foster service therapeutic leads in designing the creative projects.

· To ensure artists are suitably experienced and have correct DBS and references.

· To provide support to the project evaluator, and gather, track and collate agreed data set.

· To be first point of contact for collation and dissemination of project information.

· To work alongside fostering service colleagues in project design

· To work within All Wales Child Protection Procedures framework. (Training provided by fostering service)

 

Person specification:

· Excellent communication and organisation skills

· Ability to co-ordinate a multi-faceted project

· Ability to think creatively and have experience of organising workshops and creative activities.

· An inclusive and energising approach to working with children and families

· Knowledge of administration and evaluations processes.

· A personal arts practice and the ability to deliver creative arts / crafts sessions

· Knowledge of the arts sector

· Knowledge of health and safety, safeguarding, sustainability, and GDPR

· Commitment to learning and working within Action for Children’s Trauma informed approach.

· Happy to travel across Newport and surrounding area as required

Place of Work: Action for Children’s ‘Arts Space’ in Beechwood Park, Newport NP19 8AJ and at the Riverfront Theatre and Arts Centre, Newport NP20 1HG.

Hours: 1.5 days a week (or 12 hours)

Salary: £150 per full day / £75 per half day (circa up to £12,000 within 12-month period). Inclusive of travel to place of work
