Thanks to funding from Newport City Council via a £5 million Welsh Government Summer of Fun fund, Newport Live was able, this summer and into the Autumn offer free activities and programmes across sport, leisure, theatre, arts, and culture.
Many of the free activities took place between July and September 2022 ranging from crafty Saturdays to intensive swimming lessons for children aged 0 – 16 years and their families. One of the free activities was Active Tots, an open drop-in soft play session for 0 – 5 years. The Free Active Tots sessions offered soft play, games, sensory play and a bouncy castle allowing children to practice climbing, crawling, balancing, hopping, skipping, throwing, and catching in a fun and safe environment.
Kerry Griffiths, Performance and Strategy Manager at Newport Live said “Keeping young children happy and healthy is the aim of the Active Tots sessions. With the rising cost of living and with similar facilities closing in the city centre in recent months families have really appreciated the opportunity for their little ones to attend Active Tots sessions for free this Summer. The sessions have been a huge success and we look forward to continuing to deliver affordable activities for parents with preschoolers over the coming months.”
Active Tots sessions revert to paying sessions from October onwards and cost £3.70 per child. Sessions take place on a Monday and a Friday from 9:45 am – 2pm at Newport Centre and can be booked via the Newport Live app and website at newportlive.co.uk/tots, at the reception of any Newport Live leisure centre or by calling 01633 656757.
On Monday 31 October we are running a one-off Halloween special instead of our usual Active Tots sessions. Fancy dress is encouraged and there will be plenty of fun games and refreshments on offer and every child will be given a gift to take home. Halloween Active Tots parties will take place at Newport Centre on the 31st of October from 9:45-11am, 11:15am – 12:30pm and 12:45 – 2pm. Suitable for children aged 6 weeks to 5 years and cost £4.75 per child, advanced booking is advised via the Newport Live app and website at newportlive.co.uk/HolidayActivities, at the reception of any Newport Live leisure centre or by calling 01633 656757.
Newport Live is a charitable organisation, which means the money they make is wholly reinvested into the services and facilities they offer, so all Newport Live customers are supporting the local community through the delivery of these projects and activities.
