Newport’s Christmas Cwtch Appeal 2025

Newport Live is coordinating an urgent fundraising appeal this Christmas, to raise money for 300 of the most vulnerable children and young people in Newport, working in partnership with Newport City Council.

All funds raised via Newport Live’s Christmas Cwtch Appeal page, www.newportlive.co.uk/cwtch2025 will be spent directly on those who need it the most, as with previous years! The funds will be spent on essential items, gifts, and presents, then wrapped and delivered the week before Christmas Day!

Some of the funds will also contribute towards a Christmas Party in December, kindly supported by the Celtic Manor, where younger children will meet Father Christmas, and carers, disabled children, foster families and those cared for by the local authority, can share in the joy and celebration.

Councillor Laura Lacey, Newport City Council’s Cabinet Member for Social Services, said: “We’re really grateful to Newport Live for continuing to partner with us on the Christmas Cwtch appeal, which has now been running for several years. Each year, this appeal makes a real difference to some of the most vulnerable children and young people in our city, helping them and their families access essential items and a bit of extra support during what can be a very difficult time. It’s inspiring to see the generosity of local people, volunteers, businesses and partners who come together year after year to support this important cause and spread some much-needed kindness across Newport.”

As with previous years, the Christmas Cwtch Appeal relies on the support of local people, local businesses, and partner organisations to donate and to give generously, however big or small, and to help spread some Christmas cheer this time of year!

Last year, collectively we raised over £6,000 and this year the aim is to match and if not exceed last year’s donations.

Karl Reed, Head of Community Sport & Wellbeing at Newport Live said: “We’re really proud at Newport Live, once again helping coordinate this appeal, giving over our GoFundMe page to Newport’s Christmas Cwtch Appeal to raise much-needed funds for children looked after by Newport City Council, and those who are most in need at this time of year! It’s a simple way for us to connect local people, businesses, and partner organisations, often looking to help out with a worthwhile cause at Christmas, but often not knowing where or who to speak to. The gifts that get bought and delivered, mean so much, and I’ve seen first-hand the beaming smiles

on the children’s faces at the Christmas Party, as they speak to Father Christmas by the open fire at the Celtic Manor, and later as they leave the venue, with their arms filled with Christmas goodies, presents and selection boxes! It’s one of those times of the year when Newport comes together, and donates to help those less fortunate, and once again we’re happy to play a small part!

To support Newport’s Christmas Cwtch Appeal, financial donations can be made and are welcomed from anyone, including local residents and businesses, via Newport Live’s Go Fund Me Page here.
