Following the most recent update from the Welsh Government earlier today, Newport Live is delighted to be welcoming back customers to its facilities from Monday 10th August.

The organisation is putting into place final preparations for re-opening and will share more details next week on facilities and sessions which will be available to customers, but this is due to include indoor facilities including gyms, sports halls, the Velodrome track, swimming pools and group exercise classes together with the return of more outdoor areas and activities.

During its closure period Newport Live has been preparing its facilities for the return of members of the public including additional cleaning, improving the customer booking process, creating an exciting new website, amending timetables and implementing social distancing to ensure the safety of customers and colleagues.

Newport Live have also made improvements to their facilities including upgrading the athletics track and throws area, installing solar panels on the Geraint Thomas National Velodrome of Wales, refreshing outdoor courts and expanding our gyms into other areas within the buildings.

Upon returning, customers will be required to follow additional Covid-19 guidance and will see other changes to help keep everyone safe including a reduction in the number of users in buildings, relocation of gyms and equipment as well as additional signage and sanitisation.

To ensure everyone’s safety and to support Public Health Wales’ Test, Trace, Protect service, all customers accessing services and facilities will be required to have a Newport Live card. More details on setting up your account and obtaining a card can be found on the Newport Live website.

Steve Ward, Chief Executive at Newport Live said “It brings me great pleasure to be able to welcome our customers back to Newport Live. Whilst we have been able to support the community in other ways through providing training facilities for Wales’ elite athletes and hosting Aneurin Bevan University Health Board’s coronavirus recovery programme, I am delighted to re-open our doors to members of the public once again and to see some familiar faces. Exercise is so vital to our customer’s health and wellbeing, especially during this unparalleled situation, and it is great to be able to support the people of Newport and beyond and to inspire a healthy and active city.”

More detailed information about the reopening including an update on memberships and direct debits, as well as changes to facilities will be provided next week.

The reopening excludes The Riverfront Theatre and Arts Centre, also managed by Newport Live, which announced earlier this month that all scheduled performances until 31st December 2020 will not be going ahead, however it is hoped the theatre will open in the Autumn with an alternative programme of activity.
