We are looking for a Company Stage Manager to support the successful delivery of the Riverfront Theatre and Arts Centre’s pantomime, Robin Hood.

Contract dates 28th November 2022 – 7th January 2023

Fees: 6 weeks paid at £787.95 per week. £200 per week subsistence can be paid where home is 25 miles or more from the venue.

Role Overview:

The Company Stage Manager (CSM) leads the Stage Management Department of the pantomime and is responsible for the welfare of the company and provides wider support across all departments of the production of Robin Hood. Together with the Production Manager, the CSM is responsible for the smooth running of the production.

The role involves working closely with the Creative Development Manager who is the Creative Producer for the pantomime, Technical Manager, Production Manager, Director & Production team.

The CSM plays a key role in maintaining the standard of the production once open.

Line Manager:

The CSM should report to the Creative Development Manager and Technical Manager.

Conversely, the CSM has line management responsibility for the Stage Management Team.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

·       To provide effective management to all staff under the CSM’s line management.

·       Curate a safe, proactive working environment for the entire company.

·       Ensure each working day is happening in line with the productions schedule and ensuring that all company are working within their hours and breaking accordingly.

·       Oversee performance management.

·       Be the first port of call for all members of the production.

·       Maintain a regular dialogue with the Creative Development Manager and keep them apprised with matters concerning performance and rehearsal.

·       Work with the Creative Development Manager and team at The Riverfront to work within the budget for the production

·       Undertake stage management duties within the live show

Contracts and Finance:

·       Deal with any contractual or union matters which may arise, in conjunction with the team at Newport Live

·       Ensure the implementation of employment terms for all actors and stage management staff in accordance with the relevant contract agreement.

·       Maintain working relationships within the acting company and stage management in accordance with the relevant union agreements.

·       Manage Petty Cash

Rehearsal & Performance

·       Oversee the delivery of stage management services including the daily setting up and smooth running of rehearsals and performances.

·       Work with the DSM at the end of each day to ensure a concise schedule for the following day is going out.

·       Manage the three rehearsal spaces ensuring they are all tidy and ready for the company at the start of each day.

·       Oversee the effective and efficient organisation of Company calls under the relevant union agreement

·       Ensure production requirements are met in a timely fashion and all departments are kept informed of what is required and when.

·       Liaise with the Creative Development Manager and marketing department to organise publicity and press calls.

·       Liaise with Wardrobe Department to organize wardrobe calls and fittings.

·       Work with the production team to ensure the technical schedule is met.

·       Run the technical and dress rehearsals and ensure that the schedules are kept on track.

·       To be present for all technical and dress rehearsals.

·       Oversee maintenance (repairs and maintenance to props / set etc)

Health & Safety:

·       Together with the Production Manager, manage a well-organised, clean efficient and safe working environment in those areas used by stage management and company members ensuring you are up to date with current Covid policies of the Welsh government & Newport Live.

·       Ensure all work undertaken by the Stage Management Department complies with Health & Safety policy and practices and with current Health and Safety Legislation, reviewing risk assessments for the production and documentation associated with.

General Responsibilities:

·       To liaise with other departments to ensure good communication and the smooth running the pantomime.

·       To undertake any other duties as reasonably required.
