ABOUT THE PROJECT
The (Future) Wales Coast Path is a year-long series of creative events and installations exploring the impact sea level rise could have on the coastline of Wales, and investigating our relationship to land and water.
Project lead, Alison Neighbour, is currently developing this project in Newport and Magor, creating maps, walking scores, and guidebooks with the local community, as well as connecting with a community in the Indian Sundarbans in collaboration with choreographer Vikram Iyengar. The first stage of activity took place in February 2022. Lighthouses will be installed in Newport and Magor from April -October 2022 and additional public activities will be in April, May, July, September and October 2022.

Creative Commission
The Creative Commission is for a period of focused research and development time to produce a Creative response to themes provoked by The (Future) Wales Coast Path and Climate Change Awareness. Outcomes produced as part of this project will be exhibited in The Riverfront Arts Centre as well as on-line.
The opportunity is open to artists working in any artform and whilst it is not compulsory, we do have a particular interest in artists and ideas that respond in some way to water, the land and place mapping – for example, through connections with people, passions, histories, landscape or other uniqueness of the places and communities that we are part of.
To make this opportunity as accessible as possible, we will offer this as a hybrid residency, meaning artists can choose to work from home or their own studio spaces, from space in our venue, or a combination of the two.
Individuals, collaborations, or collectives can apply and must be based in one of the areas linked to the Gwent Levels (namely Newport, Torfaen, Monmouthshire and Cardiff).
