The Riverfront Theatre and Arts are overjoyed to collaborate with Catherine Dyson, Hannah McPake and Dyfan Jones to bring a new play with songs, titled Bitcoin Boi, to The Riverfront studio theatre this July.

All well-known to Riverfront audiences for their involvement in other productions at the venue, Catherine Dyson (Transporter), Dyfan Jones (Robin Hood) and Hannah McPake (Gagglebabble), along with a cast of talented Welsh performers are working together for the first time to bring Bitcoin Boi to life.

The Riverfront team have supported Bitcoin Boi from the inception of the project. Catherine, Hannah and Dyfan began their work in 2020 and have since brought together a highly skilled team to bring the production to life.

Times are hard and skies are grey, and it’s a daily battle to keep the wolves from the door. Jade and her mother Crystal dream of a better life - the life promised to them by Jade's father, before he vanished. While Jade relentlessly chases down a mythical fortune in a video game, Crystal is seduced by the offer of a mysterious stranger who has come to town. In the shadows, a Bounty Hunter waits. As the night unfolds, both must face a reckoning with loss and longing, and find their way back home.

Part modern fairy-tale, part sales pitch for a new crypto utopia, this Newport-grown story explores themes of grief, hope, and the true price of the dreams that we are sold.

They say you can't put a price on a good life. They're wrong.

The play features songs composed by Dyfan Jones with lyrics from Catherine Dyson, heavily inspired by 80s, early 90s style electro music.  Designed by Ashley Phillps and Mari Hullett. With lighting design from Joe Price, and projection/Image design by Nic Finch.

The Riverfront are looking forward to hosting fun nights out for audiences, with a gripping story, great tunes and inventive visual elements. Suitable for everyone 12+ (for any content warnings, please see the Riverfront website).

Writer, Catherine Dyson and Director, Hannah McPake both commented ‘We’re thrilled to be creating this show with The Riverfront, especially as the first show in their Reflekt programme, presenting this exciting Newport-grown story.’.

Bitcoin Boi will be on stage at The Riverfront from Thursday 27 – 29 July and will move to The Met in Abertillery for their performances on 1 & 2 August.

The Riverfront Theatre and the creative team behind Bitcoin Boi would like to thank the Arts Council of Wales for their funding and support and making the production possible.
