Will Newport Centre be replaced?

In February 2021, Newport City Council cabinet approved the creation of a purpose-built carbon-neutral leisure, swimming and well-being centre, with modern facilities, located on a key riverfront site to replace the ageing Newport Centre. A public consultation on the proposals received more than 1,000 responses with the overwhelming majority supporting the proposed new developments.

As a Charitable Trust and the preferred partner of Newport City Council, Newport Live will continue to support Newport City Council on this development. Find out more about the progress of the new leisure centre: New Leisure Facility (
