Congratulations to City of Newport Swimming and Waterpolo Club - who train at Newport International Sports Village - on their wonderful swim success over the last few weeks. From the Welsh Short Course Championships in Swansea to the club's own Christmas Cracker event at the Regional Pool, Newport's swimmers have outdone themselves on both a local and a national level.

Firstly, the weekend of Friday 2 December saw 35 of the club's swimmers make their way to Swansea for the Welsh Short Course championships, and a huge array of fantastic achievements followed. Megan Allison and Kameron Clarke kicked the meet off by winning gold and silver respectively in the 400m Freestyle, while the 50m Breaststroke brought Matthew Williams the silver in the Men’s, Scarlet Major the bronze in the Girls', and Cerys Coley the Silver in the Women’s. In the 50m Butterfly Kameron Clarke returned to win another medal, this time bronze, and Scarlet Major - the only 13-year-old in the 13-14 200 IM Final - won the silver.

Day Two was just as action-packed: Kameron Clarke earned another bronze, this time with a personal best in the 200m Freestyle, and Megan Allison followed this up with a silver in the same event. Matthew Williams proceeded to beat two personal bests; Scarlet Major, Cerys Coley and Alex Griffiths all pocketed medals; and in the Girls' 200m Fly Megan Allison won the gold by over 7 seconds.

The third and final day of the competition saw Aidan Bryce earn a bronze in the 1500m Freestyle, Kameron Clarke and Megan Allison grab a silver and bronze respectively in the 100m Freestyle, Max Harris win bronze in the 200m Breaststroke, and Scarlet Major and Ellana Horton take silver and bronze respectively in the Girls' 200m Breaststroke. In the Women’s 200m Breaststroke Cerys Coley smashed her previous best time for the silver in 2:26.03, beating 3rd place by 9 seconds, and Alex Griffiths followed up his impressive performance in the 100m Backstroke with a bronze in the 50m Backstroke. Megan Allison finished the meet off in style with another gold, this time in the 100m Butterfly with a personal best time.

There were too many other Newport swimmers who made finals and swam best times to mention here, but for a full list of results please visit

If that weren't enough, the City of Newport swimmers then went on to compete in the Christmas Cracker event at Newport International Sports Village on Sunday 11 December. There were literally hundreds of amazing swims and PB’s, with Newport swimmers winning top boy and girl in the majority of the age groups.

Well done to all the swimmers who competed in both events.
