Newport Live leisure centres offer a range of activities during the school holidays, from free swimming to Sport & Art Camps. There are also a range of activities and family cinema screenings available at The Riverfront Theatre and Arts Centre.

Half Term Fun

The day-long Sport & Art Camp and week-long swimming classes will return in the May Half Term along with a number of workshops, classes and theatre shows. 

Newport Live offers plenty of activities for all the family. Just some of the highlights are listed below at each of our venues and you can download the May diary here.

  • ACTIVE LIVING CENTRE will be offering week-long swimming lessons, free swim, Junior Gym, Balance Bikes, Rugby Fun and a Family Pool Party.
  • NEWPORT CENTRE will be offering Tiny Tots, Snorkelling sessions, free swim and Junior Gym.
  • REGIONAL POOL & TENNIS CENTRE will be offering Tennis Tots, snorkelling, free swim, Mermaid Swim Taster and swimming lessons. 
  • WALES NATIONAL VELODROME will offer fun cycling classes and races, indoors and outdoors and Junior Gym. 
  • THE RIVERFRONT has a Minecraft Club, Music and Crafts Tots sessions, Cinema Clubs on Tuesdays, a Gadget Club and family film screenings, all of which can be booked online.  

At all three of our leisure sites, we have Free Swimming for under 17s and Junior Gym, the times these are available at these sites are detailed below.

For all 16-year-olds and under, please bring your Free Swim Card to every session. Please note Child Supervision Guideline apply.

Newport Live Junior Gym

Are you aged 11-16? Or do you have a teenager in your household? Fight holiday boredom with fitness. You can join your teen to a Junior Gym fitness membership, which covers; gym use as many times as you want, unlimited free swimming, selected group exercise classes that are suitable for teenagers and one racquet sport a day. 

You can use your membership at any of our Newport Live venues, the Wales National Velodrome, Regional Pool and Tennis Centre, Active Living Centre or Newport Centre.

*Ages 11- 14 at the Newport Centre, Tennis Centre and Active Living Centre must be accompanied by an adult. Over 14s are able to train unsupervised.

All under 16s at the Velodrome gym must be accompanied by an adult.

Holiday Fun Activity Descriptions...

For all the paid for and free swimming activities offered in the school holidays, each child will need a free swim card at the time of booking. 
Ducklings Aimed at ages 4+ who are currently not in swim lessons. This course is an introduction to the water, increasing children's confidence and learning aquatic skills.
Swim Skills Aimed at children in Stages 2 & 3 of the swim lesson programme. Developing swim skills in floatation, travel and rotation and water safety knowledge
Swim School  Aimed at non-swimmers, aged 5+. Develop basic safety awareness, movement and water confidence skills.


Disability Swim Taster A chance to experience sensation in water or to develop swim skills already learnt in lessons or school. Helpers will be available in the water to help deliver the sessions and support children as/when necessary.

Fun session for families only with inflatables, music and pool toys. Normal swim supervision rules apply. 

 Develop your swimming and aquatic skills. You will learn how to use fins, snorkel and masks and take part in fun underwater games. Children aged 8+ need to be able to swim a minimum of 50 metres and be confident in deep water.

Flip n Fun

Learn how to dive with style. Jump and play in and out of the water to help you develop co-ordination and balance. For children aged 8-14 and must be able to swim a minimum of 50 metres and be confident in deep water. 

Learn lifesaving skills including various rescue techniques and how to use rescue equipment etc. For children aged 8-14 and must be able to swim a minimum of 50 metres and be confident in deep water.

Mermaid Swim Enjoy the fun of becoming a mermaid or merman (or dolphin) with our new aquatic fun sessions. These fantastic new experences includes a Mono Fin and tail. Children will have the opportunity to learn new aquatic skills and games. Children need to be a minimum age of 8 and attend Stage 5 of the Swim programme. 
Snorkelling  Learn how to snorkel with fun underwater games. For children aged 8+ and will need to confident in water and completed Stage 4.

Develop your swimming strokes, especially breast stroke and butterfly. For children who are currently in stages 4 & 5.

Learn the basics of this exciting game including passing, shooting and swimming with the ball etc. For children aged 8+ and will need to be confident in the water and completed Stage 4.


Scuba Diving

An introduction to Scuba Diving, run by Welsh Diving (a registered Education Dive Facility). The Beginners session will consist of a briefing and kitting up, underwater exploration and underwater exercises. The Intermediate Scuba session is for those children who have previously completed a beginners session. You will learn how to swim through obstacles and recover objects from under the water. For ages 10-16, parents/guardians will need to sign a consent form before the session starts. 

Roller Skating


Roller skating fun for all the family, for all abilities from ages 18 months up. Skaters under the age of 16 must have an appropriate adult with them due to the nature of the activity. Skate sizes are from toddler size 6 to adult size 12 (whole sizes only). If you have your own skates, you can just turn up.

Please bring any of your own safety equipment, although you can hire free wrist guards. All hire must be booked in advance. Text the word ACTIVE, to 07739 557474 to book with the date you want to skate, all names and shoe sizes. You will receive a text to confirm your skate hire booking.
