We have two theatres at The Riverfront. The Studio Theatre is our smaller more intimate theatre space. The Studio is an excellent multi use theatre space which can hold 128 audience members in raked theatre style or 100 in cabaret style on the flat floor. There is also the option of thrust or in the round seating. This set-up will reduce capacity so will need to be discussed with the team before suitable capacities for the performance can be agreed upon.

The Studio has 80 ETC dimmers and an easy to access lighting bridges. As we also programme cinema into this space and have a Sony 4K cinema projector that can also be used, as well as a retractable screen (height 3.37m, width 7.66m). There is also access to a keyboard, upright piano and a Steinway grand piano, as well as star cloth if needed. The space also benefits from an easy to access loading dock and back stage facilities. A member of the Technical Team will be on hand to assist with the get in, get out and to ensure the smooth running of the show from a technical point of view.

Our Studio Theatre Tech Spec can be downloaded here.

We programme across genres in this space, including cinema, comedy, theatre, music, dance and talks. See our Studio Theatre: Programming Guidance for more information.

Our team is always looking for companies to collaborate and co-produce with. Generally speaking, we embark on one co-production at studio scale per season and plan these a minimum of 12 months in advance (The Riverfront’s programming is separated into two seasons, Spring – Summer season and Autumn – Winter season.

Our co-production relationships are more likely to come from a relationship built with an artist or company over time, but if you have something you think we’d be interested in, please get in touch at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

Studio Theatre FAQs

How far in advance do you programme

We usually programme our Studio Theatre 8-12 months in advance, although there are some exceptions. The earlier you can get in touch with your touring pack, the better. You can find out more about this here and send your information to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

What do you programme?

We programme a broad range of genres of show into the Studio space. For more information please see our programming guidance here.

Do you have set ticket prices and start times?

We stagger start times of the main auditorium and the Studio Theatre. Usually, Studio Theatre shows start at 7.45pm but we are more than happy to discuss earlier timings with the company, for matinee shows we normally have a 1pm start time, but again are open to discussions. We don’t have set ticket prices but we do charge an internal booking fee, which is dictated by the ticket price.

Technical support

The theatre operates a sliding scale of technical support, depending on the nature of the collaboration. Agreeing what works for all parties is a part of the initial conversations and will feed into the contracting process.

As a minimum, all shows booked into the Studio Theatre will be supported by one of our in-house technical team

More technical support will be available for our supported artist relationships and co-productions, depending on capacity. Again, this will be discussed in initial meetings.

You can find the technical specification for the Studio Theatre here.

Can I hire the theatre?

Yes of course! Please get in touch with This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. for any further information or to check availability.

What Marketing support do you offer?

We endeavour to include all performances in our season brochure and on our website (if we are selling tickets on your behalf). We will also display print about your performance, distribute press releases and support your show on social media. Depending on the type of deal arrangement you have with us, we can also offer additional support to help market and support your event.

How accessible is your building?

The Studio Theatre is fully accessible including access on to the stage as well as dressing rooms and the backstage area. There is a disabled toilet backstage.

Financial Deals

We offer Box Office splits for Studio shows on a 70/30% split in favour of the company. We have a set package of Technical and Marketing support that we will discuss with you.
