Shalakazam is a joint project between The Riverfront and the teaching staff and children of three Newport schools, St Mary's RC Primary School, St Michael's RC Primary School and St Joseph's RC Primary School. All three schools will come together and work with a team of artists and creative practitioners from The Riverfront and Upbeat Music and Arts to create a high quality, arts rich learning experience.

Young people are invited to step into the shoes of professional artists by creating and presenting their own professional piece of musical theatre. They will be in the driving seat throughout, supported by an expert team of theatre professionals and creative practitioners. Shalakazam allows the young people to develop their creative talents and provides teachers with an innovative and arts based approach to learning.

The three participating schools have been given the opportunity to participate in dance and music workshops delivered in their schools by Upbeat and gain experience and insight into all the necessary elements underpinning a professional production including marketing, operations, lighting and sound design at The Riverfront.

These young people have been given exclusive backstage access to The Riverfront venue and their in-house production of the Aladdin pantomime. This invlauable experience has helped them to think of the creative industries as a viable career opportunity as well as being a stimulating learning experience.
