Geraint Thomas MBE Track Cycling Geraint Thomas Velodrome

The Geraint Thomas National Velodrome of Wales, known on a daily basis as the Geraint Thomas Velodrome, is situated in Newport and is Wales' national velodrome - one of only five internationally recognised indoor velodromes in Britain. The venue - previously known as Wales National Velodrome - was officially renamed on 2nd September 2018 at a ceremony attended by the man himself, Geraint Thomas MBE.

Whilst many know Geraint for his success in the 2018 Tour de France, he regularly trained at the Velodrome during his Track career, particularly ahead of his team persuit olympic gold medals in 2008 and 2012 - the Velodrome has previously hosted TeamGB and ParalympicsGB training camps ahead of four previous Olympic and Paralympic games, as well as Australian and USA squads in the run up to London 2012.

The Velodrome is home to national governing body Welsh Cycling, who have daily training sessions to develop new talent and prepare for competitions, most recently the 2018 Commonwealth Games. The Velodrome is also host to 'Icebreakers', the only youth track racing series in the UK.

We offer a range of sessions and courses to suit all abilities, so take a look at what's on offer detailed below.

You could also take part in a Corporate Track Cycling Event with your own organisation or attend other corporate cycling networking events.

About the Track

The Velodrome was built in 2004, as a world class training facility with seating for 500 spectators. One lap of the track measures at 250 metres, and at either end of the track you'll find an imposing 42 degree bank. The track is an all wooden construction, made of Siberian pine - specifically chosen for it's hardwearing and resilient nature.
